Edgar C. Balding

Edgar Calvin Balding was the second of four sons born to Fred and Stella Day Balding. He was born October 17, 1925, in Edwards County Illinois. He passed away November 11, 2012, in Arvada, Colorado. He graduated from Albion Community High School in 1943 and later that year joined the Army Air Corp, serving until 1946. When he returned to the Albion, Illinois community after his military service, he helped his father with farming and carpentry work. He was married to Mildred Jane Wright on July 7, 1945. Children born to them were Myra, Sue, Tom and Alice before moving to Colorado in 1952, and Sara in 1964. They moved to Arvada, Colorado in 1962. Ed worked for Kunz Brothers Construction, Olinger's Mortuary for 20 years, and North Jeffco Recreation. After retirement, he managed the Farm Crest car wash for many years. He had a life-long interest in sports, especially bowling, softball/baseball and football. He was a fan of the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos. Being of service to others was one of his greatest pleasures. He was a member of Arvada Christian Church for over 50 years, serving as elder, deacon and church board member. He volunteered extensively for the Colorado Christian Service Camp as long as he was able. Family was everything to him. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed travel and had visited all 50 states. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Walter in 1965 and Norman in 2005), his daughter Sara in 2002 and his son-in-law, Bob Smith in 2006. He is survived by his wife Mildred, brother Nile (Helen), sister-in-law Joy, son Tom (Mary), daughters Myra Smith, Sue Milton (Tom) and Alice Zmijewski (Tony). He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Laura Poet (Jeff), Lanna Trembath (Mark), Shayne Balding, Shyanne Richardson, Jennifer Messervy (Rob), Ben Milton (Katie), Matthew Milton (Alyssa) and Amanda Brown (Bernie). Further, he is survived by 17 great grandchildren: Jessica, Liesl, Andrew, Moriah, Sara, Micah, Jacob and Shiloh Poet; Dustin and Kassidy Trembath; Hannah and Tania Richardson; Dakota, Blake and Lukas Messervy; and Savannah Milton and one great, great grandson, Luka Poet. Two nephews survive, Gary Balding and Brad Balding (Rhonda) and two nieces Kathy Gilligan (John) and Joyce Balding. Also three great nephews: Taylor Balding, AJ and Michael Gilligan and two great nieces Erin Balding and Charisse Parkinson.   A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 2:00pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada, CO 80003.
