Edith Marie Karns

Edith was born to Frances (Ulmen) and Leonard Posey in Bismarck, North Dakota. From that day she was no stranger to cold and snowy winters.

She graduated from Robinson High School in 1950. There were seven students in her graduating class.

She attended and graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1953. Following friends from Nursing School, Edith moved to Denver, CO. Through those friends she met Chuck and they were married November 3, 1956. He introduced her to the mountains, skiing, fishing and his appreciation of Colorado. She remained in Colorado the rest of her life.

In 1959, she gave birth to their daughter Lesa.

Edith had a long, rewarding career in nursing with St. Anthony Hospital. The majority of time she spent in the Operating Room. The Surgery department was run ‘by the book' (often The Book of Posey). She had high expectations of herself and her staff. Those expectations, teachings, dedication and commitment insured quality care for the many patients she served. After retirement Edith continued to lead and influence many nurses and caregivers by teaching to incoming health care providers.

Edith experienced Retinitis Pigmentosa; a condition that greatly limited her sight. She never let it affect her appreciation for coffee and the wonderful fragrant flowers.

She also enjoyed baseball, hockey and animals. She and Chuck spent many years training and showing Siberian Huskies, competing in AKC breed and obedience trials. She also held a love for German Shepherd dogs.

Edith is preceded in death by her parents Frances and Leonard Posey, her brother Pat Posey and her husband Charles Karns.

She is survived by her daughter, Lesa Graber (Dave) and grandchildren: Raelynn and Stevan Graber.
