Edmund Schaefer

September 8, 1926 — November 5, 2015

Edmund Schaefer was born on September 8, 1926 in Chlobow (near Turek) Poland and passed away on November 5, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Irmgard; two daughters Brigitte Collett (husband Bill) and Edie Ward (husband Geoffrey); four grandchildren John Pearson (wife Susan) Aaron Pearson, Rebecca Reed (husband Randy) and William Collett III ( wife Joy); nine great-grandchildren Alexandra, Zachary, Harrison, Loren, Lexi, Alisha, Marco, Isaac and Sophia. Edmund was the eighth child of Thodor and Olga (Manski) Schaefer. His early life was spent on the family farm but later he learned the baker trade from his brother. He got his master bakers license in Germany, March of 1949. It was in Germany that he met the love of his life Irmgard. They married on August 13, 1948. Edmund told Irmgard that day, the day he was confirmed at 16 and got his first new suit were the best days of his life. In 1951 the family immigrated to the United States where Edmund continued to work as a baker often holding down three jobs. Later Edmund began to pursue the career that became his passion - construction. He loved his work as a contractor, loved his family, enjoyed his many friends, loved to dance and was always ready to help anyone who asked. Edmund was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Services will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church, 13371 W. Alameda Parkway, Lakewood, CO, Friday November 13, 2015 at 11:30 AM. Lunch to be served after the services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
