Edna Guise Doyle, 96, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2018.
Edna was born in Tarkio, Missouri August 8th 1921, to Carl and Frances Guise. Edna and her older sister Katherine were raised in small towns in Iowa and Minnesota, graduating from Greenway High School in Coleraine, Minnesota. Edna then attended the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota, and graduated with a law degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1943, the only woman in her law school class. A member of the Greatest Generation, Edna served as a Navy Wave Lieutenant JG during WWII, stationed in Washington D.C.
After the war Edna moved to Denver, where she worked at a law office and continued to serve for two years in the Navy Reserve at Buckley Air Field. She met and married Bill Doyle in 1947. They raised three children in the house they had built, and where she lived for fifty years.
A staunch Democrat her entire life, Edna was active in local politics and served in the administrations of three Denver mayors â Tom Currigan, Bill McNichols, and Federico Peña â as Executive Secretary to the Mayor from 1963 -1987. During that time, it seemed that everyone in Denver knew Edna.
Her husband E. William Doyle predeceases her. She is survived by children Michael (Patricia) Doyle of Wells, Maine; Diana Doyle of Denver, and Susan Doyle of California; six grandchildren Jeff Ogden, Chris Ogden, John Doyle, Edward Doyle, Katie Herman and Emily Herman; and three great-grandchildren Michael, Tristan and Kaitlyn.
Edna will be remembered for her active mind, her independent spirit, and her interest in people, current events, and the world around her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Horan & McConaty, 1091 S. Colorado Boulevard Monday, June 11 at 10:30 AM. Committal at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
Her family thanks Brookdale Mountain View, the Highline Rehabilitation and Care Community and Halcyon Hospice for the compassionate care she received the last years and days of her life.
