Edward Patrick Carey, age 73, passed away peacefully at the Veteran’s Community Living Center on Monday evening, October 25, 2021. The cause was complications related to Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s Disease, and dementia.
Edward was born on December 23, 1947, in Paterson, New Jersey. Ed moved to Denver as a child and attended Mount Carmel Catholic School. He returned to Paterson and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. He attended Seton Hall University before enlisting in the Army and served in Vietnam as a Ranger Team Leader. After his time in the military, Ed moved back to Denver. Once in Denver, Ed worked as a Denver Police Officer for ten years. He then spent many years working in the car industry, and he retired as an insurance agent for Allstate in 2011. Ed was an active member of St. Michael’s the Archangel Catholic Church and belonged to his 75th Ranger Regiment Association, where he was the editor of the newsletter Sua Sponte. Ed was an avid triathlete in his younger years and participated in numerous races. He also enjoyed biking, reading, crossword puzzles, writing, and especially enjoyed being a season ticket holder with the Denver Broncos. Dear to his heart was his special relationship with his Marriage Encounter Group of 25 years.
Edward is survived by his wife Donna Carey, daughter Kimberly Brown (Tyler), daughter Hannah Carey, daughter Kathleen Seiler, son Patrick Carey, and sister Marianne Carey Wasko. Ed is also survived by his grandchildren Scotty Brown, Brynlee Brown, Sydney Frazier, Logan Carey, Caden Carey. Ed was preceded in death by his mother Margaret McNulty Carey, father Joseph Carey, brothers Joseph, Francis, and Robert Carey.
Services will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at 10:30 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church located at 19099 E. Floyd Ave, Aurora, CO 80013. The military committal service will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Friday, November 26, 2021, at 1:30 pm.
