Edward Dickhoff

1937 — January 1, 2022

Evergreen, Colorado

Edward (Ed) Bernard Dickhoff, husband, father, brother, friend, passed away peacefully at his home on April 26, 2022. He was 84 years old.

Ed was born on November 10, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ed was the oldest child with two brothers and one sister. Ed graduated from Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati and received his associate degree in electronics from Ohio College of Applied Science. When he was twenty-three years old, he married his cherished sweetheart, Mary Burkart, and they were married for over 60 years when he passed. Ed and Mary enjoyed the outdoor spaces of Ohio’s state parks hiking and canoeing with friends. While on their honeymoon, the couple visited Colorado, which sparked a love of the mountains and the state.

The new family lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, and later New Milford, Connecticut. In 1973 Ed worked with Pitney Bowes Alpex on one of the first grocery store bar code scanning systems. Similar systems are found in every grocery store in the nation today. The family moved to Colorado in 1976. Ed began his 20-year career at Martin Marietta which then changed to Lockheed Martin. He always expressed pride in the projects he was a part of, even if he could not share the specifics of those projects with his family. The family's initial home in Colorado was in the Denver area, including Westminster, but in 1983 Ed and Mary realized their dream of mountain living and moved to Evergreen.

Ed and Mary raised seven children and gave them a strong work ethic, the capacity to care for others, and a love for the natural wonders of Colorado. The family took many trips hiking, skiing and camping.

After he retired, Ed, Mary, and sometimes other family members would travel together. Among their adventures, they spent a month on both the islands of New Zealand, visited Japan and China, and visited most of the Hawaiian Islands. They joined a genealogy group in Evergreen and used their travels to enhance their family history with information from local libraries and cemeteries.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Alma, brother Robert, sister Cecilia, and sadly his youngest son Dan at thirty-eight. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Mary; his children James (Lauren), Tom, Sue (Clay) Steward, Joan (Randy) Carroll, Mark (Lucy), Bob (Cynthia); his brother David (Debbie), his niece Jennifer, his nephew Eddie (Minda); his grandchildren Jessika, Reggie, Madison, Danny, and Orion; and his great-granddaughter Avayyah.

His funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church. The church is located at 4291 Evergreen Parkway, Evergreen, Colorado. Interment following in Bear Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Mount Evans Hospice or Evergreen Christian Outreach (ECHO).
