After a long, valiant battle with Parkinson's disease, Ed passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 12, 2018. Ed was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. He graduated from American International College in Springfield with a BA in business and was a multi-lettered varsity athlete for both the crew team and basketball team. Ed married his wife of 61 years Mirium (""Patsy"") Gibbons, on September 14, 1957.
After serving as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army at First Army Headquarters on Governors Island, NY, Ed was honorably discharged and began working for IBM. Ed moved his family from Cheshire, Connecticut to Denver in 1965. In 1969 he started his own business - Microfilm Communication Systems - and became an industry leader in the fiche/computer output microfilm business in the Rocky Mountain region.
Ed was a member of Valley Country Club for over 50 years and served as the president of the Board of Directors for two terms. He was also a member of the Rector's Council at St. Thomas Seminary in the late 1970s. He is a devout Catholic and was very dedicated to and supportive of the Catholic Church.
Ed loved basketball, baseball, softball and, most of all, golf. He so enjoyed coaching his boys in their early years in YMCA gyms and on the Southeast Denver Little League fields. Ed was happiest when he was on the Valley CC golf course or playing golf at his home away from home in Wailea, Maui.
Ed is survived by his wife, his brother Barry, his four children, Kevin, Barry (Joy), Mary and Barbara Yackus (John), and his six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Matthew, Brian and Michelle Gibbons, Caitlin Milanaik (Connor) and John Yackus, Jr., He is also survived by the ""Little People"" - Mary's pups â Birdie and Bogey, who he grew fond of.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to his caretakers from Friends for Life, the VA and Denver Hospice, and asks that all donations be made to these entities in lieu of flowers. Ed would not have passed away peacefully in his home without their dedicated service and wonderful support.
