Edward Nelson Juhan

Edward Nelson Juhan, age 86, died January 22 in Lakewood, Colorado. Edward was born July 1, 1926 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado to Joe T. and Genevieve Juhan. He attended Garfield County High School in Glenwood Springs, and received his high school diploma from Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri, where he spent two and a half years in high school and junior college. He studied Petroleum Engineering at the University of Oklahoma, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Westminster College in Salt Lake City. In 1954 he received his LLB from the University of Denver Law School. In 1955 he was named assistant state attorney general and held this position until establishing his own law practice in 1956. Ed was elected District Attorney for the First Judicial District of Colorado in 1964, serving until 1968. Prior to being elected, he was Deputy District Attorney. He was appointed by Governor Love and served as commissioner of the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission from October 9, 1969 to June 1, 1972 and was reappointed as Vice Chairman from 1972 to 1977. He was recognized as Honor Life Member of the Colorado Bar Association. In Ed's younger years he enjoyed both snow and water skiing and later on his passions were golf and cruises. He loved champagne, caviar and a good steak and he'd work that off by waltzing around the dance floor. He'll be remembered for his ever-present generosity, humor and thoughtfulness. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Hunter of Helena, Montana; his companion, Sandra Whistler; his daughters Becky Crawford and Susan Ray (Neil) and his grandsons, Jeremy and Ryan Crawford.
