Edward R. Sieber April 8, 1947-March 12, 2014 Ed was born in New York City on April 8, 1947 to Herbert and Rita Sieber. He is pre-deceased by both parents and sister, Diane. Ed is survived by his loving family, wife Lucy, son Chris, Daughter-in-law Susan and two almost always adorable grandchildren Andrew and Audra. A great metaphor for Ed's life is the film A Bronx Tale. He grew up in a loving, hard working, strict family. Outside the apartment on Valentine Avenue, Ed immersed himself in the street savvy culture of NYC. Not only did he acquire street smarts but a food fetish for deli food â pastrami on rye, smoked lox and bagels, gefilte fish etc. In any event, the film as well as Ed's life is about values. Ed attended the prestigious Cardinal Hayes High School in New York. Studies could be particularly difficult as the school was only a block away from the old Yankee's Stadium. Imagine trying to concentrate on geometry with the roar of the crowd during a spring time game. After graduation Ed was employed by Railway Express Agency. Until one day in May 1966, he received 3 important pieces of mail: his pink slip from REA, his acceptance letter to the NYPD Academy and his draft notice from the US Army. He decided to opt for the Navy instead. However, the Navy recruiter was out to lunch and the Air Force office was next door. So the Air Force it was! Talk about choosing a career path. During his four years of service, Ed advanced to the rank of Sergeant. He served as a combative measures instructor teaching judo, karate and drown proofing techniques that hopefully benefited our troops in Vietnam. Ed and Lucy were married June 7, 1969 and welcomed the birth of their son, Chris in February, 1970. Almost immediately after his discharge, Ed was hired by Continental Airlines and served with pride for 32 years. He truly loved his Continental family â even during the Lorenzo years. Always a hard worker, Ed worked his share of overtime, earned a college degree and yet found the time and energy to coach soccer, baseball and basketball. In particular, Ed's favorite past time was fishing. However, somehow awakening at 5:00 am to 'catch the big one' never really worked. Another area of special interest to him was World War II history. He was an avid reader on the subject and while volunteering at the VA Hospital in Denver thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the vets and rehashing war stories. An avid fan of aviation, we kidded him that he had jet fuel in his blood. Of course, the connection with the airlines afforded the Sieber family many travel opportunities. An extrovert at heart, he made many friends from Nebraska to New Zealand and enjoyed immersing himself in the culture and history of each country visited. Following the demise of the Continental operations in Denver, Ed decided to try something different. Somehow 'different' equated to his work with the TSA at DIA. While no a fan of federal bureaucracy, he did enjoy the company of some fantastic co-workers and of course, there was always the occasional handgun or land mine when things got too boring. His real issue with work there was the outlandish Bluecifer horse that greeted him each work day at the entrance to DIA. Finally, one of Ed's favorite sign offs to his co-workers was 'Safe Home"". Now, it's our turn to wish him ""Safe Home"".
