Edward "Ed" Smith

February 23, 1958 — February 15, 2022

Ed Smith, 63, passed away on Tuesday , February 15, 2022, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Michigan and moved to Colorado as a child, growing up in the Thornton area. He graduated from Highland High School and remained in the Denver metro area the remainder of his life.

Ed started a business when he was still a preteen, selling soft drinks and snacks to construction workers in a new subdivision across the street from his house. He did this summers until the subdivision had been built out.

In high school, he went to work at Arby's, working his way up to manager, travelling to new locations and opening one of the first Arby's in Wyoming. At age 20, he began an outstanding career at Mutual of Omaha. During his 43 years of exemplary service, he was awarded Honor Club 24 times. This is an award given for top performance at Mutual of Omaha.

Ed was actively involved with the American Diabetes Association and the Children's Diabetes Foundation for several years. In his spare time, he loved sharing new adventures with his son (except maybe the indoor skydiving).

He is survived by his son, D.J. Smith; his sister Joan (John) Moline; nieces Michelle Hall, DaNita (Danny) Robinson, Jessica Smith, Marissa Smith, and nephew Jeremiah Crowe.

He was preceded in death by parents, Joseph H. and Lorraine A. Smith, sisters Kathleen (Larry) Tuller and Linda Lee Smith, and brothers

David Joseph, James Richard and Daniel Bryan.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Loreto, 18000 E. Arapahoe Road, Foxfield, CO, 80016 on Friday 3/4/2022 10:30am. Reception following at On the Rox Sportsbar, 11957 Lioness Way, Parker, CO, 80134. A private interment will be at Mount Olivet in Wheat Ridge at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may e made in Ed's name to Children's Diabetes Foundation, Dept #880505, P.O. Box 29650, Phoenix, AZ 85038-9650
