Edwin Small

October 30, 1919 — January 20, 2022

Edwin Small, age 102, died peacefully on January 20, 2022, after the onset of pneumonia. Edwin was born in Denver, to Robert and Gladys Small. He married Dorothy Linck in 1947, and lost his beloved wife in 1984.  He is survived by his two sons, Stephen Small of Centennial, Colorado, and David Small of Scottsdale, Arizona, and two grandchildren, Jeanine and Eric Small.  Unfortunately, Ed lost his two dear brothers, Robert and John, who passed early in 1955 and 1981.

A true Denver native, Ed went to South High School. He graduated from Dartmouth College, Tuck School of Business, in 1941. Upon graduation, he entered the Navy and earned the rank of Lieutenant Commander, serving in both World War II and the Korean war. Ed commanded a submarine chaser and an oil refueling tanker during the wars and also served in the U.S. Naval Reserves between wars.

Ed loved to ride his horse “Rusty” during the summers in Buffalo Creek, Colorado, where the Small family had a summer cabin for 124 years.  Ed was an avid skier and skied until he was 87 years old with the Over The Hill Gang at Copper Mountain. Golf, hiking and hunting also brought him pleasure.

He enjoyed a long business career, which began at the Remington Arms plant, after graduating from Tuck. Following the wars, he worked at the Frink Cramer Creamery, became Assistant Manager at Inland Paper Company and retired from Packaging Corporation of America (now Pactiv) as Sales Manager, where he was a charter member of the Million-Dollar Club.

Ed served on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Denver as their Treasurer and volunteer. He was also a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow +3 and a Gold Fellow of the Denver Rotary Club Foundation.  Ed was a faithful member of the University Park Methodist church, where he was frequently seen as an usher.  His Rotarian Sponsor once stated “All, I believe, will agree that no matter on what level they had contact with Ed, they have found him to be a great person to know, a person of high integrity and a hard worker in many areas… he is one of the good ones!”

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Crown Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Ed would appreciate a donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Denver, Inc. www.bgcmd.org/donate/
