Eileen Therese O'Meara Allen

September 5, 1930 — December 1, 2012

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother at the age of 82, in the Porter Hospice at the Johnson Center after a tragic fall at home. Eileen Therese was the youngest of 5 children from Alfred M. O 'Meara and Margaret C. (O'Fallon). She is preceded in death by siblings Margaret M. McGlone, Alfred M. O'Meara, Kathleen A. Stewart, Eugene P. O'Meara and a half-brother Michael J. O'Meara. She is survived by her half-brother, Owen P. O'Meara. Eileen was born at their home on 6th and Vine Street in Denver on September 6. However it was not until she applied for her driver's license that the date recorded was September 5! What a gal, she celebrated both days! While riding a street car, she met a lifelong friend, Patricia Panick ""Patty"" Carpenter, who was lovingly with Eileen throughout her life, caring for children in their younger years, being working mothers together, witnessing both of her marriages and being prayerfully with her near the hour of death. Eileen graduated from St. Francis High School in Denver and then briefly attended Mount St. Mary's University in Illinois. Returning to Denver, she married William F. Garrow of Chicago who preceded her in death. Their three children; William ""Bill,"" Nancy, and Mary Anne all live in Colorado. Her 5 grandchildren; Jessica, Robert, Kathryn, Cole and Joseph were fiercely loved and cherished by their grandmother, who was always in their lives; and one great grandchild, Maxwell. Throughout Eileen's work career, first for Phillips Petroleum Company then the Bradford Printing Company then O'Meara Ford Company all in Denver, she was a highly competent executive secretary. As a consummate reader, this hobby allowed her to always maintain her strength and skill as a master writer and superior in English literacy. Warning: never expect to win playing Scrabble, unless she was on your team! Due to the Polio epidemic in Denver during her high school years, and the quarantine banning of public gatherings, she learned to play Bridge with the ""Bridge Girls;"" Char, Mary Ad, & Margaret. They would play for decades. They faithfully gathered weekly to play cards ""till the sun comes up."" After decades of widowhood, she met and married Frank W. Allen of Denver in February of 1995. He was a gentle and affectionate companion until his death in 2010. Eileen's gift of humor and hospitality made her the ""go-to"" person whenever planning a party. Her skills as a hostess were exceptional. The attention to detail, especially when it came to fine jewelry was awe inspiring. She knew every stone, every setting, every everything. She was a devout practicing Catholic whose faith brought her comfort during the shadow days. Her Celebration of Life and Remembrance Mass will be at Most Precious Blood Church in Denver. Please join us in celebration of a life well lived Monday, December 17 at 10:00 AM followed by a reception and 1:30 PM inurnment at Fort Logan National Cemetery where she will rest with her beloved husband, Frank, a decorated veteran of WW II, Korea and Vietnam. Contributions in lieu of flowers to the Wounded Warrior Project in their names are greatly appreciated.
