Eileen Marie Chapman

January 16, 1935 — April 4, 2014

Eileen M. Chapman, daughter of the late Thomas R. and Marie H. Smith was born January 16th, 1935. Eileen was the fifth of seven children. Four brothers and one sister preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother Daniel Smith from Baltimore, Maryland. Eileen received her education in the Baltimore Public School System. She attended Elementary and Middle School at St. Monica Catholic Church. She completed her education at Douglas High School. Eileen was a devoted Catholic and during summer vacation she volunteered for the Sisters of Notre Dame. She would also cook dinner for the family on Fridays. This is where she learned to make that good potato salad that everyone grew to love. After high school, she worked briefly at Equitable Trust Company. She met and married Thomas Chapman Jr. during this time. Together they had five wonderful children. Cynthia, Michele, Michael, Lynne and Philip. The family travelled the world due to Tom's military career and lived in Japan, England and throughout the United States. While In England, Eileen was president of the American Catholic Women Organization. During her time in the organization she met Cardinals Cook and Spellman, the Archbishops for military personnel. While living in Rome, New York, Eileen briefly worked at Grand Way Department Store during the Christmas season as she wanted her children to have a nice Christmas. She was a dedicated Mother and was always there for her children and her dogs. She would bake delicious cookies and no one complained that they were slice and bake. She was always available to chaperone school field trips and was there for basketball games, baseball games, and track meets. Eileen developed friendships all over the world and enjoyed catching up with friends no matter their location. Eileen was a spunky individual with a big heart. She loved the Catholic Church and considered many of the Priests to be dear friends. She also loved clothes and flowers. We will meet again Eileen Marie, God bless you and know that you will be missed by your family and friends. Left to mourn her are her loving husband Thomas Chapman Jr., three daughters Cynthia Chapman Rhodes, Michele (Dennis) Dewalt and Lynne (Kenneth) Stevenson. Two sons, Michael (Karen) Chapman and Philip Chapman. Nine grandchildren, Chris Madison, Jason Rhodes, Stacy Speller, Jessica Chapman, Nathaniel Chapman, Nicole Stevenson, Marcus Chapman, Jacquelyn Stevenson and Kyle Chapman. One brother, Daniel Smith, and a host of other relatives and friends.
