Eileen Newby Swets

Eileen Newby Swets passed away on December 23, 2018 in Centennial, Colorado at age 96. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 20, 1922 to Leonard Russell Newby and Lily Leaf Newby. She graduated from Indiana University in 1943 with a degree in theatre and speech. On April 29, 1944 she married Edward John Swets, MD in Indianapolis.

During the first few years of their marriage, Ed and Eileen lived in Seattle, Santa Fe, Chicago and Tucson while Ed served in the Army and pursued his medical training. During these years, Eileen worked at Boeing in Seattle and the Commerce Clearing House publishers in Chicago. In 1947, they settled in Denver where Ed completed his medical training and Eileen taught English at East High School. In her 40s, she returned to school and earned a degree in interior design from the University of Denver.

Eileen was a consummate pro in designing, furnishing and maintaining beautiful homes and she took great pleasure in entertaining. Ed and Eileen traveled all over the world and their homes were furnished with many beautiful and unique pieces acquired abroad. Eileen was a proud member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.

Eileen's husband, Ed, predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter, Gina Moore (Peter) and three grandchildren, Patrick Rooney (Amy), and Brian and Lisa Moore.
