Elaine Teresa Egan, 93, went to the arms of our Father in Heaven on April 25, 2022, surrounded by her loving family members as she passed from here to her new heavenly home.
Born on May 13, 1928, to George and Helen (Burlien) Minot, baptized in the Catholic faith at Saint Barnabas Catholic Church in Alameda, California. Elaine loved God deeply throughout her whole life. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Alameda. Elaine had always prayed she would meet a religious man that would share her Catholic faith. Even though she was engaged, her parents prayed God would bless her with the right man of faith to share her life. She met Jim on vacation in Denver in April 1951, and she knew she had met the love of her life. Elaine broke off her engagement with a Dear John letter as they began to date, and they became engaged on July 4, 1951. Her parents’ novenas were answered as she fell deeply in love with a man who would treasure her and share her deep faith throughout their entire life together. They were married on the Feast of Sorrows on September 15, 1951. Their marriage lasted 66 years until Jim went to heaven to wait for her in 2017. Elaine was the best mom, raising her eight children to love others. Family and faith came first — a value she instilled in everyone. She is survived by seven children, Kathleen (Dennis) Machlica, Howard (Roslyn) Egan, Eileen Egan, Nancy (Tom) Tearney, Mary (Ken) Krehn, Steve Egan, and Paul (Cindy) Egan; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren who cherished every day they had with her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents, George and Helen Minot: siblings, Roland (Anita) Minot, Jerry (Clarice) Minot, and Jackie (Doug) Maha; daughter, Helen Egan; and granddaughter, Melissa Egan.
Elaine was the mother and grandma everyone wished they had. She always let her children and grandchildren know they were deeply loved, continually saying prayers for them while offering gentle words of encouragement and love, supporting them in every part of their lives. Elaine loved to travel, especially to Ireland. Her grandchildren loved telling everyone that her favorite shows were Naked and Afraid, My 600 Pound Life, and the Forensic Files. Elaine always said she would hunt for Peter Thomas of Forensic Files when she walked into heaven. She wanted to let him know how much she loved his narrative voice. Everyone whose life Elaine touched will deeply miss her. We will have so many special memories as she lives in our hearts forever.
