Elaine Ann Hammond

Elaine Hammond passed away May 27, 2018, having suffered a major stroke. Born on June 11, 1926, in Denver, Colorado, the only child of Gus and Kathryn Smith. She grew up in her beloved South Denver, attending Rosedale Elementary, Grant Junior High, and graduating from South High school in 1944. Growing up she was loved by many aunts, uncles and cousins, and enjoyed many fishing trips with her father. Her smile was infectious and her heart was as big as the mountains she loved. She met the love of her life, Bill Hammond in 1942, an 18 year old airman far from home, who through the Catholic USO, signed up to spend Thanksgiving dinner with her family. Bill and Elaine were married April 12, 1947 in St. Louis Catholic Church in Englewood, Colorado. Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Bill, daughter, Susan and her sons, Zachary and Matthew, son Tom, his wife Virginia and their children, Jonathan and Marilee, son Bill and his daughter Sadie, son, Steven and his wife Debbie, their children, Christine and Jennifer, her husband Jim and their children, Lauren, Meaghan and Nathan. Visitation will be from 5:30 - 6:30 pm with rosary to begin at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, 6/6/2018 at Horan & McConaty 1091 S. Colorado Blvd. Denver, CO 80211. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, 6/7/ 2018, 10:00 am at Risen Christ Catholic Church, 3060 S. Monaco Pkwy. Denver, CO 80222. A reception gathering for family and friends will be held at Risen Christ Catholic Church immediately following Mass. Burial to follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery 4400 W. Kenyon Ave. Denver, CO 80236. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Elaine's name to the Denver Hospice at Lowry 8299 E. Lowry Blvd. Denver, CO 80230
