Elaine Nassen

March 23, 1945 — August 26, 2022

Elaine Paulette Bergsgaard Nassen of Highlands Ranch, CO passed into the eternal care of our Lord on August 26, 2022, at her home in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, surrounded by her brother Craig, all while embraced with love in the heart of her long time care giver and niece Paulette Whathen, along with many others.

Elaine was born on March 23, 1945, in Spring Grove, MN, the daughter of Palmer and Edna Bergsgaard.  Elaine was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove.

Elaine’s education began in a rural one room school through sixth grade and then graduated from Spring Grove Public School.  Elaine worked at Ellingson IGA and then at Spring Grove Public School.  Elaine was involved with the Houston County Homemakers group and her church circle Bible Study at Trinity Lutheran Church and Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Denver Colorado

Elaine married Dennis Deters of Spring Grove and was later divorced.  Elaine moved to Denver, CO in 1969 and worked for the Dean of the University of Colorado Medical Program in Denver and later for the Superintendent for the Cherry Creek School District.

Elaine married Paul R Nassen on November 28, 1981 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Denver and enjoyed many activities and travels with Paul.

Elaine was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and was active in the adult choir and women’s Bible Study groups.  Elaine also enjoyed her time playing bridge, bowling, movie night with friends in their homes with Paul, skiing, golfing and spending time with her friends and their families.  Elaine was very grateful and thankful for her many friends and her memories made over the years of her life.

In 2010, while preparing for a skiing trip, Elaine suffered a devastating home accident.  After a lengthy rehabilitation at Craig Hospital in Denver, Elaine was able to regain some mobility and continued to live in her own home with the continued love and support from the staff at Craig Hospital.  Elaine was blessed to welcome Paul’s niece, Paulette after her retirement, into her home and was so thankful and grateful for her love, support, care and companionship.

Elaine is survived by her siblings, Janet Gilbertson Sanness, Craig (JoAnn), Bruce (Betty), Robert and Kristi (Neil) Storlie, godchild Hannah and nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, Paul, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother David, her brothers-in-law Glenn Gilbertson and Lloyd Sanness and sister-in-law Jody Bergsgaard.  She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
