Eldred F. Thompson

Eldred “Al” Thompson, 94, passed away peacefully in his sleep, at the home he shared with his Daughter on July 6, 2024. He was born August 12, 1929, in Kings Mountain, KY to the late Ollie and Gertrude Thompson. He was preceded in death by his 2nd wife Etta Cook and 1 brother, Conrad (Juanita) Thompson of Cincinnati, OH and 2 sisters Marjorie (Herbert) Williams of Danville, KY and Marilyn (Jim) McCurdy of Palm Desert, CA. 

He joined the Army in 1950 and was Honorably Discharged in 1953 and went to work with his father Ollie on the Railroad. He moved to Colorado in 1958 where he met his first wife, Nona and they had one child, Sondra. He went to work at Martin Marietta (Lockheed Martin) where he worked for 30+ years until he retired. 

He loved old Western TV shows, and you could usually find him sitting in his favorite recliner chair watching Gunsmoke. He was an avid fan of WWE, Price is Right and Judge Judy. He also had a selection of Word Find books which he did on a regular basis to keep his mind active. He loved all animals and was known to feed the neighborhood squirrels wherever he lived. 

He had a passion for food and enjoyed eating out with his family. He loved Chinese food, Mexican food especially with hot green chili, Spaghetti & Meatballs, Biscuits and Gravy and a good cheeseburger with onion rings. He had a sweet tooth for ice cream, cookies and donuts but did not like anything Chocolate.

Eldred was passionate about his love for the Lord and often talked about his conversations with the Lord. He prioritized participation in the faith community and was an active member of the local Baptist Church wherever he lived. A loyal servant of God, Eldred was dedicated to attending church services several times a week. Now that Eldred has passed into the arms of our Lord, his physical life on earth is over but it is the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for him.

Eldred is survived by daughter Sondra and 2 grandchildren who he loved more than anything, they were his pride and joy, Granddaughter Tasia, her fiancé Danielle and Grandson Damien.

Graveside services will be held Monday, July 22, 2024 at 10:30am at Ft. Logan National Cemetery. Please feel free to come and pay your respects. If you can’t attend, please leave your memories of him on this page or on his Facebook page. 

In lieu of flowers please send all donations in his memory to an animal shelter in your area or to Wounded Warriors.
