Eleanor M. Demshki

June 21, 1922 — August 23, 2017

Eleanor Marie Demshki was born June 21, 1922 in Pueblo, Colorado and passed away August 23, 2017 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado under the loving care of Lutheran Hospice. Eleanor’s family moved to Denver where she attended schooling at St. Joseph’s Polish School, Annunciation grade school, and graduated from Manual High School in 1940. Eleanor attended St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, from which she graduated in 1943 and then passed the Colorado State Board of Nursing. She joined the American Red Cross Nurses in 1943 and enlisted in the Navy Nurses Corp. in which she was called to active duty on May 10, 1944 and remained with the Navy as a nurse until July 1946. While active with the Navy, Eleanor received the WWII Victory Ribbon and the American Theatre Ribbon. Eleanor was an office nurse from 1947 until 1977 for Isadore Gersh, M.D. In 1977, she worked for the City and County of Denver as a secretary until retirement in 1988. In retirement, she was a volunteer at the Windsor Gardens Library, Denver Public Libraries, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Denver Visitors Bureau, and a Catholic nurses group in critical care. She also traveled to Italy and London with her friend, Darlene Barbieri. Eleanor was one of six children of Andrew Demshki and Helen Harney. Brothers Andrew and Ed Demshki and sisters Helen Anderson and Gladys Smith preceded her in death. Her only surviving sibling is Bob Demshki of California. She is also survived by seventeen nieces and nephews and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Boulevard, Denver, Colorado. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 2566 Sable Boulevard, Aurora, Colorado, followed by burial at 2:15 p.m. with military honors at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
