Eleanor Mae Hicks Maxon passed away on January 23, 2016 in Boulder, Colorado, surrounded by family. She was born on March 23, 1929 to Mae Lillian Daniels Hicks and Robert E. Hicks in Toronto, Canada. Growing up during the depression, Eleanor's family moved often, living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Oak Park, Rosemont, and Hastings, Minnesota, Berwin, Illinois, and St. Paul, Minnesota. They ultimately settled in Colorado, where she graduated from Lakewood High School in 1947. After High School, Eleanor worked for a short time at the telephone company in Denver before marrying Earl Maxon in 1950. They were married for 21 years raising four children together. She then went on to accomplish a lifelong goal, earning her nursing degree in 1978 from Loretto Heights College. For many years she worked at Craig hospital and later as an elementary school nurse in Lakewood. Upon retirement, she took pleasure in caring for her home, gardens and greenhouse. Eleanor was an avid reader and an artist who enjoyed painting with watercolor and oil. She also loved ceramic dolls and spent a lot of time researching, painting, and restoring antique dolls. She had a deep affection for small pets and dearly loved her cats. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert C. Hicks who was killed at the Battle of the Bulge, her brother Richard H. Hicks, and sister-in-law Ruth. She is survived by her brother, Norman E. (Esther) Hicks of Lookout Mountain, CO, cousin Pat Krause of Lincoln, NE and Apache Junction, AZ, her children Cindy (Earl) Roberts McCook, NE; Betsy (Ken) Davis Longmont, CO; Marcia (Dennis) Bieroth Mountain City, NV; Robert Maxon Littleton, CO; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff at Manor Care of Boulder and Jennifer Davis of Optum Hospice who helped to make her final days here more comfortable. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Horan McConaty Funeral Home, 2:00 PM.
