Eleanor Reyna

March 13, 1936 — December 9, 2020

Our beloved mother, Eleanor Roberta Reyna, passed peacefully away on December 9, 2020 at the age of 84. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, grandmother, and friend…and the heart and soul of our family. Mom had the voice of an angel. She was generous and strong, unwavering in her Catholic faith, and had endless capacity for love. We miss her dearly.

Eleanor Garcia was born March 13th, 1936 in Denver, Colorado to Roberto and Delfina Garcia. She was one of 11 children, and also a fraternal twin! Mom was a Colorado native and her family has Hispanic roots in Colorado for 200+ years and in New Mexico for nearly 400 years. At the age of 19, Eleanor met her future husband, Ysidro "Sid" Reyna when he was in the US Air Force and stationed at Lowry AFB. The two married in 1956 and began a 25-year journey together as a military family. Sid and Eleanor had 6 children, and raised their growing family in Japan, Germany and Italy as well as 4 U.S. States, including living in Denver 6 times. Throughout the 11 times they moved between countries and states, as well as Sid's 2 tours of Vietnam, Eleanor remained resilient and was the "rock" who kept her family safe and together. Denver, Colorado was always home base, and they moved back permanently in 1974, and this is where all six children reside today. Sid passed away in 1981 and left Eleanor a 45-year-old widow.

Eleanor was lucky enough to find enduring love again, and in 1982, she married Damacio “Dan” Silva, a local mariachi musician and composer. Together the two made beautiful music across Denver, where Dan played instruments and mom sang in churches and at events.  Many nights they played and sang just for fun, bringing joy to family and friends. Eleanor’s confidence and voice flourished over the years, and we will all remember fondly her beautiful, passionate singing. Mom was a devoted and loving wife to Dan for 32 years, until his death in 2014.

Eleanor’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were all her pride and joy. And she was ours.

Eleanor is survived by her 6 children:  Anna Reyna-Gonzales (Mark), Sid Johnny Reyna (Liliana), Preston Reyna, Lisa Gomez, Warren Reyna (Terry) and Jennifer Reyna Bagdon (Mike), as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all loved their Grandma Reyna.  Eleanor is also survived by 4 siblings, whom she loved very much: Dora Ortega, Bill Garcia, Jean Garcia, and Genevieve Redecker.
