Elisabeth Susan Duran

Elisabeth Susan Duran passed away at home on March 4, 2025, at the age of 62. She was born on March 26, 1962 to Roy and Betty Duran and grew up in Vista, California with her sisters Gillian, Valerie and Sarah. While there, she met and married her high school sweetheart, Christopher Esch.

Elisabeth was preceded in death by her father, mother and husband Chris, and is survived by her two children, Isabella and James.

Elisabeth earned a degree in Economics from Occidental College and a Master’s in U.S. History. She had a career as a writer and editor, working for major magazines before transitioning to freelance work while raising her children. She was known for her intelligence, humor, creativity, and deep love for her husband. She was an expert seamstress, creating everything from clothing to home decor, and was an avid reader, especially enjoying the works of Georgette Heyer. She valued holidays and family traditions, including nightly family dinners from her legendary recipe book, and was a dedicated mother who encouraged her children’s passions and education.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association on behalf of her and her husband Chris.
