ELizabeth A. Biggs

September 20, 1949 — January 14, 2011

Elizabeth Ann Biggs of Lone Tree, Colorado was born on September 20th, 1949 in Pueblo, Colorado to Howard M. and Cecilia T. Myers. She was the oldest of three sisters (Barbara and Beatrice). She attended St. Pius X School and later graduated from Seton High School.

Beth first met her husband Rob in first grade at St. Pius, in Pueblo. He later recognized her on her porch while passing by in a car while the two were in high school. He stopped to talk, and the two began dating.

Beth attended Southern Colorado State College in Pueblo and continued to date Rob throughout her time in school. They were married on August 1st, 1970 in Pueblo and immediately moved to Denver. Beth continued to drive to Pueblo for school and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with the distinction of ‘˜Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities’. She would later earn her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Northern Colorado, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She also earned her Type D Certificate from the University of Denver.

Beth began her career as an educator substitute teaching in the Cherry Creek, Aurora and Denver Public School systems in 1971. She was hired as a foreign language teacher in Denver Public Schools in 1972, and taught at both John F. Kennedy High School and Henry Middle School. Throughout her long and distinguished career in Denver Public Schools, she served as a Supervisor of Bilingual and Second Language Education, Principal at Park Hill Elementary School and Southeast Area Superintendant. She retired in 2005 from Denver Public Schools with over 31 years of service, but continued to work as a Principal Mentor and advisor to DPS until June of 2010. Beth valued, very highly, the strong relationships that she built over the years with colleagues in the public school system, and they continued to be among her closest friends.

Beth and Rob’s first son, Kyle, was born in 1977 in Denver. The new family briefly moved to San Francisco, but quickly returned to Denver where her second son Nathan was born in 1981. Beth and Rob raised their boys in Littleton, Colorado where they enjoyed close relationships with neighbors and friends. She enjoyed watching her boys grow into men and was proud to finally gain two daughters-in-law.

Beth’s main hobbies and interests included traveling and socializing with friends. Strong work relationships, close ties with neighbors and friends and her love of family resulted in an active social lifestyle. Beth also enjoyed playing Bridge in a club that she and Rob were a part of for 25+ years. Beth and Rob traveled the world with many of these people, and one of her most cherished memories was when she was able to take her two boys to Europe in 2007.

Beth was first diagnosed with breast cancer in December of 1990. She received many treatments for her illness over the years, and each time the cancer returned, she continued to fight and maintain a positive outlook on life. Her strength and perseverance has been an inspiration to many, and her trademark smile will live on in our memories.

Beth is survived by her husband Rob, two sons Kyle (Stacy) and Nathan (Sarah), sisters Barbara and Beatrice (Reed), niece Brooke and nephew Drew. She is preceded in death by her mother Cecilia and father Howard.
