Elizabeth Louise Robinson Cohen (Liz), beloved wife of Edward (1931-2018), and mother of Sara and Michael, peacefully passed away on December 19, 2023 at 88.
Liz was born in Chicago to James and Elizabeth Robinson (Bondy), She grew up in Chicago, attending high school and college at the University of Chicago, and there obtained her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work. She moved to Denver in 1965, and the following year met her future husband, Edward Cohen. They married in February 1967. Sara arrived in June 1968, followed by Michael in March 1970.
In 1975, Liz and Edward joined six families to found Herzl Jewish Day School. Herzl was Liz’s third child and has grown to become part of the Denver Jewish Day School. Liz also managed Edward’s law practice for decades until their blissful retirement in 1989.
In retirement, Liz volunteered at the Denver Zoo for 25 years where she loved animal handling and teaching children. She had a particular love for horses, and rode whenever she could, including trips to dude ranches in her twenties and her eighties.
Liz read avidly, enjoying fantasy, science fiction, mystery, animal biology, and romance. She joyously watched her Denver Nuggets win the 2023 championship.
Liz is survived by her children, Sara and Michael, her sister-in-law Agnete, her nieces and nephews, grand-nieces, and the rest of the Cohen family. Her joyful presence will be missed by all.
A celebration of Liz’s life will occur at Horan & McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Road, Centennial, CO 80122 on Friday, December 22 at 11AM.
