Elizabeth J. ""Betty"" Hines

June 21, 1925 — April 27, 2014

Betty was born June 21, 1925 in Holyoke, Colorado. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Miller and Frank Linnenbrink. They were farmers in Holyoke. Betty attended Pleasant Prairie which was a one room school house. Betty graduated from Holyoke High School in 1943. She attended the College of Education now known as University of Northern Colorado. She graduated in 1947 with a life certificate in teaching. She married Robert E. Hines on her birthday in 1947 in Holyoke. Bob preceded in her death in 1979. After having taught three years at Platteville & Gill and after her husband completed his degree they left their native home and family and adventurously moved to California in 1950. They were blessed with three children, Bobbet, Beth Hines O'Neill ""William"" and Brian Hines ""Mimi"". She leaves behind her wonderful grandchildren, Allison O'Neill, Brian Hines, Jr., John Robert O'Neill and Walker Hines, along with her beloved dogs, Trixie and Honey. In 1961, Bob and Betty returned to Englewood, CO where she remained until her death. Bob taught school and she tended house until the children were ready to attend school. At that time, Betty returned to teaching in the Littleton Public Schools. She received her Master's Degree in Library Science from Denver University. This was no easy task to attend college while working and raising three young children and tending the home. She worked as a librarian for 17 years at Arapahoe High School where Betty's love of reading never died. She retired in 1989. After retirement, Betty's biggest love was traveling. Her travels included Europe, Spain, Portugal, China, Africa, Hawaii, Alaska and many points in Colorado and the United States. Betty was a member of the Assistance League of Denver and Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan, CO. She enjoyed her volunteer work which included Saint Vincent De Paul, Holy Name Parish Council, the Martha's, the Mary's and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. She endured many struggles with her health but was a valiant fighter and bravely conquered her illnesses with the help of her loving daughter, caregiver and friend, Bobbet. The last two years of her life illness forced her to become a homebody. Betty greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and living life through their eyes. Betty enjoyed playing cards and some called her ""the crossword queen"" . She was extremely proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren and always supported them in their endeavors. She strived to instill good values in her children and grandchildren and was always there to listen and give advice. She always told them to look for something beautiful in life every day. Betty passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family members. We will miss her dearly and hold on to everything she taught us. Her smile and sunny disposition will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty's honor to Saint Vincent de Paul, 3290 West Milan Avenue, Sheridan, Colorado 80110 or the charity of your choice. ""The time we spend here on earth is extremely valuable in that we take nothing with us other than the love we shared with people while we were here and the difference we may have made in their lives."" ….Betty Hines
