Elizabeth M. Moon

Elizabeth Masola Currin was born June 27, 1912 in Hugoton, Kansas to Windsor Silas and Mary Elizabeth Walker-Currin. Elizabeth received her formal education in Hugoton, Kansas and was the first African-American to graduate from Hugoton High School in 1931. After graduation she attended the Emporia Teachers College (Emporia State University), the same school her mother and aunts attended many years prior. Following her college matriculation, Elizabeth worked in Liberal, Kansas where her future husbands' family had moved. In 1941 Elizabeth married Everett Bernard Moon. To the union only one son was born, Everett Windsor. They celebrated 57 years of marriage. Following her husband's service in the United States Army, they moved to Denver, Colorado where her parents and siblings Windsor Marcellus, and Ruby Juanita had come earlier. In Denver, Elizabeth worked at the May D&F and the American Woodmens Life Insurance Company until motherhood. Elizabeth joined New Hope Baptist Church in 1949, where she was active in many areas including the Boosters Club and the Nursing Home Ministry. In 1962, she served as co-chair of the Womens' Day program. Elizabeth was active with several civic and social organizations including, The Bronze Daughters, The NAACP (Life member), The National Council of Negro Women (Life member), The National Urban League (Life member), and The American Legion Auxiliary. Elizabeth was a 25 year breast cancer survivor. Elizabeth was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Elizabeth went to be with the Lord March 31, 2011. Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memory, her son Everett Windsor ""Boots""; her sister, Ruby Kirk-Gray; her sister-in-law, Frances M. Currin; her grandchildren, Stency , Shabron , Shayla , and Sheryl ; her great grand-children, Malaya, Carson , and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Visitation, 4:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, Horan & McConaty, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd. Funeral Service, 11:00 AM Saturday, New Hope Baptist Church, 3701 Colorado Blvd. Interment at Fairmount Cemetery.
