Elizabeth Payne Shannon died peacefully March 10, 2016. Born November 8, 1923 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, she attended Connecticut College and the Philadelphia School of Occupational Therapy. Betsy worked for several years at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. She moved to Denver with her husband in 1953 and raised three children. Betsy enjoyed music and the arts, was very active with the Democratic Party, The Women's Library Association, The Pet Program at Children's Hospital, The Population and Peace Coalition, and was a Cile Bach award recipient with the Denver Art Museum. Betsy was an avid reader and student of the English word. Betsy is survived by her two sons, Christopher Shannon (Denver), and Phillip Shannon (St. Thomas, USVI), daughter Sarah Young (Denver) and two grandsons, Scott Young (Bozeman, MT) and Nathan Young (St. Paul, MN). Services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, March 18 at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 1091 South Colorado Boulevard, Denver, with a reception to follow.
