Elizabeth ""Betty"" Lou Stemple

Elizabeth L. Stemple, age 90, fondly known as ""Betty"" passed away peacefully Monday, September 9th, 2013 at the Heritage Retirement Home in Denver, where she had been living for the past 2 years. Betty was a 65-year resident of Rawlins, Wyoming; where she and her husband Darrow raised their family of three children and operated several small businesses. Betty was regularly involved in the Methodist Church activities such as quilting and dinners for services. She was recognized as the ""Quiet Disciple"" from statewide candidates. She was always willing to help out. Betty (Moore) was born in Elm Springs, South Dakota May 13, 1923 to make a family of 8 children. She met Darrow while they were both working in Sturgis and later married him September 30, 1942, three days before he shipped out for the Army. After the war they moved to Sinclair, Wyoming where Darrow took a job at the Sinclair refinery, where he worked for 27 years. In 1953 they moved into Rawlins where they began the Kirby Vacuum business and began buying apartments. In 1965 they also purchased and operated the Hi-Way 30 Motel on Spruce St. Betty helped operate all these businesses as well as saw to it the kids got everything they needed. She was always there for the family. Betty is survived by her three children, her daughter, Sharon Parson and Pete Pagano of Denver, her daughter Darlis and Tom Fuller of Houston, and Darry and Margie Stemple of Grand Junction. Her granddaughter, Michelle Rivas and her two sons Blayton and Bryce; grandson, Matt Fuller and his wife Lynda also survive her. Betty's niece, Alta and her husband Frank; daughter Heather Bloomquist of Rawlins and Bettys' sister, Ruth Linn of Rapid City; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Cards and letters may be sent to Sharon Parson at 473 S. Pennsylvania, Denver, CO 80209. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 800 N. 23rd, Rawlins, WY 82301. She and Darrow will meet again as her cremains will be buried in the Sturgis National Cemetery beside her husband Darrow, in the town which they first met.
