Elizabeth 'Betty' Tynan

January 19, 1937 — March 22, 2012

Betty was the baby (third child) of Hazel and Clyde Stromsoe. Her older brother Jim Stromsoe, a former auditor for the State of Colorado, died in 2002. And her older sister Jean Stromsoe, a retired Literature professor, currently lives in Littleton. Betty grew up in North Washington Park-area and attended St. Francis DeSales Catholic School, before starting St. Joseph's Nursing School. Betty met her husband Robert ""Bob"" Manley Tynan early in life and developed a friendship that lasted until the very end. Together they had seven children over a span of fourteen years (not a misprint.) The first-born was Ann Michel who is a home health care nurse, married to Mike Hill, and lives in Aurora. James Patrick works at Tynan's, is married to Aileen Daley, and lives in Littleton. Their son Patrick, Betty's first grandchild, just earned his MBA from Santa Clara University and lives and works in the Bay Area. Deb owns and operates two Primrose Schools, is married to Bob Tagliani, and lives in Centennial with their daughter Natasha. Kathleen Marie teaches at Brown Elementary, is married to Patrick Ridgeway, and lives in north Denver with their two children Tom and Nora. Thomas Joseph is married to Ingrida Couto and they live on the island of Lanai. Dennis Michael teaches social studies at Nanakuli High on the island of Oahu. Kevin Robert is the youngest (the baby) of these seven, and also the youngest of 30+ cousins, and currently lives in Aurora. Betty lived a full life and at the very center of it all was the love of her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. While FAMILY was her greatest love, those who knew and loved her will remember she had a passion for many things. One of the most important was ""her"" mountains, which she spent a great deal of time skiing on, driving through, and just generally admiring their beauty. She was an avid sports fan too. This included attending virtually every swim meet, basketball and football game that her family participated in, as well as cheering for various college and professional teams such as CU, the Broncos and Tiger Woods. She adopted and cared for many animals over the years, getting great pleasure from creatively naming them like Pearl Bailey, WC Fields, and Toulouse-Lautrec. Of course, this love of animals did not extend to snakes! Betty loved a good adventure and travel was part of her adventurous spirit including Italy, Canada and extensively throughout the US. However, her favorite destination was Hawaii, in part due to her family and friends living there, but also a genuine fondness for the ocean despite her fear of water. In general, Betty loved a good party and her annual Christmas party was the family event of the year. But her love of the Christmas season extended to many other family traditions such as cookie-decorating, her flocked-Christmas tree, and a house full of Christmas decorations every year. Betty's family and friends will be gathering to celebrate her life on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Holy Name Church at 3290 West Milan Avenue in Englewood, Colorado 80110. The funeral mass will start at 11:00 am and there will be a reception immediately following in the parish center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Betty Tynan to the Alzheimer's Association.
