Else Emma Paynter

November 25, 1928 — June 15, 2016

Else Emma Paynter , 87, of Denver, died Wednesday, June 15th in Aurora. She was born in Ludwigsburg , Germany. Else is preceded in death by her husband John Paynter & son, Jeffrey Paynter . She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Mike) Herrick & granddaughter, Emily Herrick. John and Else were married June 1956 and came to the United States of America and settled in Denver, Colorado in the late 1960's. Together they have two children Barbara and Jeffery and in remembrance of Jeffery those who wish to can contribute to Laradon Hall where Jeffery attended. Those things most memorable about her life and most enjoyed were some of the organizations she belonged to such as the Society of Military Widows. In this case and many others, she acquired many lasting and long friendships. The list of those things she enjoyed most include cooking, reading, gardening, classical music, hiking, and visiting mountain communities such as Glenwood Springs and Hoosier Pass. Everyone was blessed by those talents. For example, during social events, she would prepare coffee, tea and treats usually something European, in particular German Cuisine. One of the proudest moments of her life was obtaining her citizenship and was eager to stay up to date on local, state and national politics. By nature of her drive to be aware of her environment, international events were also very important to her. However, pride in life was realized in other ways as well. For example, she was so proud of her granddaughter Emily when she graduated from college with a degree in social work and used her knowledge and natural talent to help those in need. Emily was the fulfillment of Else's dreams as she believed to avail oneself and comfort the needy with compassion and charity was life's loftiest achievement. Emily brought so much joy to her grandmother who viewed her with great pride. Else understood the necessity of personal achievement and the desire to remain healthy to live a life that would contribute to the good of others. She accomplished this by participating in water aerobics for 25 years at the National Jewish Hospital, the best relief for arthritis. A monumental achievement to maintain her own quality of life. She loved her family and enjoyed the times she spent with Mike, Barbara, and Emily. She loved to be with them in their home in northern Wyoming. She enjoyed the beauty of the Yellowstone Park recreation area. On one of her trips there she flew out of Cody, Wyoming and thought she was flying with an orchestra because they all carried cases presumed to be musical but they were rifle cases of the hunters travelling to hunt big game. Her origins were also evident to her son-in-law Mike who knew her relatives were car dealers in Germany as they sold VW, Audi and Mercedes cars and owned their own dealership. She so enjoyed VW's that she owned two and she believed they were they top of the line vehicles which she gave to Mike. Everything just mentioned were all important to her in life but that which she enjoyed most of all was her family and friends. A woman of great integrity she desired most of all only to serve and give the joy of her talents to those she treasured most. We love her and miss her but know she is now home reunited to John, Jeffrey and those she loves so dearly. To conclude our thoughts of one we love, Else, perhaps the most appropriate way would be to share with you some of the last thoughts that I shared with my mother. These words come from her heart and mine and reflect the joy and beauty that we share not only together but also with the heart of God and the beauty of all He gives. 1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; 8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore 1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. A Celebration of Life, will be held 4:00 pm Friday, June 24 at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd. Private committal service will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
