Elwin "Bill" Smith

July 5, 1931 — May 26, 2022

Elwin Smith, better known as Bill, left a legacy of kindness, intelligence and humor that will echo far into the future. Bill was a guardian in the truest sense of the word; he cared for, guided and loved his friends and family without reservation.

Bill lived a full life. Born in depression era Oklahoma he moved to Denver in his pre-teen years. He quickly made many  friends that he maintained throughout his life. He was also a man of many talents; he served our country in the Air Force during the Korean War, raced cars and motorcycles and climbed mountains both here and abroad. He was a paper handler at the Denver Post for fourteen years which financed his medical school tuition.

After medical school he became a well-respected Pathologist who served his community for decades and was the “Go to” medical professional for all his family and friends. He was also a pioneer in coagulation and cardiac health and positively impacted countless lives.

He is survived by his “fetching” wife Kathleen Smith (nee Eagan) who was not only his loving spouse of almost 63 years, but also his best friend and partner in all their adventures. He is also survived by his children Colleen Smith Bredell and Steven Smith, their respective spouses Kevin Bredell and Pam Smith; their grandchildren Garrett Bredell, Brenna Foos, Sean Smith and two great-grandchildren Weston Foos and McCoy Foos.

Simply put, he was our family’s heart and soul and by demonstrating honor and integrity in every part of his life he left a legacy that will ripple through countless generations to come. He will be missed more than words can express.
