Emma Dean Greenfield, 82, passed away July 8, 2006 at Porter Hospice '"" Johnson Center from cancer. Emma was born January 22, 1924 in Udall, Kansas, the daughter of Theodore Edgar and Mary Hamilton McNeel Sloan. Emma at age one moved to Wichita, Kansas. After graduating from East High School, she attended the University of Wichita, now Wichita State University. She pledged Alpha Tau Sorority. In December when WWII began, she dropped out and went to work for Cessna. In 1945 she met and married Theodore Alvin Greenfield. Together they raised four children; son, James & wife Kathy (Hamilton, MT) and daughters, Patricia & husband Barry Kurre (St. Louis, MO), Janet & husband, Jim Heck (Mound City, MO), and Susan (Denver). Emma worked as Ted's secretary through the years. She also volunteered at the Jefferson Memorial Gift Shop when the lived in St. Louis, turning down the offered position of Chief Buyer. Emma was an excellent seamstress from clothes to draperies and upholstering. She was also creative with whatever craft caught her eye. One enjoyment was making and selling her Raggedy Ann dolls in a shop in Golden, CO. Emma also enjoyed her deep friendship with her TLC group. A group of 12 girlfriends formed in high school with some friendships originating before that. Round Robin letters and reunions have kept them in touch. I'm sure they enjoyed her quick wit and sense of humor that has blossomed these past couple of years. But Mother's wit must have been there, since she would rattle on request her high school cat's name 'Millie Henrietta, Annabelle, Adelaide Daisy, Lee, Mickey Sloan'. Emma was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Theodore; her brother, Leroy Sloan and sisters, Olivia Leland, Oletha Grant, Francis Jean Campbell, Mary Spurrier, and her grandson Christopher James Heck. She is survived by her children, five grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Greenfield, Julie (Kurre) & husband Steve Roth, Jonathan Kurre and Amy Heck, and by 2 great-grandchildren, Matthew and Evelyn Roth. Family will receive friends for viewing at the mortuary on Tuesday July 11, from 4:00 to 6:30, followed by a Funeral Service at 6:30 at Horan & McConaty, located at 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO 80227, ph. 303-986-9615. Emma will be laid ro rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery with her husband, Ted. Memorials may be sent to Susan G.
