Emma Louise Hyman June 8, 1930 - June 8, 2014 Resided in Aurora and Denver, CO Emma Louise Hyman, long-time resident of Aurora, Colorado, died peacefully in the early afternoon on her 84th birthday, Sunday, June 8, 2014, surrounded by many of her closest family members. The cause of death was pneumonia complicated by sepsis. ""Emmy Lou"" was born on June 8, 1930, in Hays, Kansas, to Mildred (née Hammond) and Joseph Bissing. She moved with her parents and older brother, Jack, to Denver when she was eight years old. The family had a number of residences in East Denver, thanks to her parents' penchant for flipping houses. Emmy Lou made a name for herself as a soda jerk before graduating from East High School in 1948. She rode the bus to secretarial jobs at the capitol and at Stapleton airport, where she met her father-in-law to be. The bus driver's son was the dashing Army Lieutenant Robert David Hyman of Trenton, Michigan. First enchanted by Robert's movie star portrait, which hung in the window of a local photo studio, Emmy Lou met Robert in person in January 1949. She then followed him to West Germany, where he was transferred, to marry him in the summer of 1950 and start her life as an Army wife. In Germany, Emmy Lou became known as ""Louise"", gave birth to daughter Patricia Ann in April 1951, and son Robert David Jr. in January 1953. She worked for a short time between births for the CIA under the alias ""Clara F. Perchick"" as a ""Public Stenographer"" (according to formerly secret documents). The family returned to the United States in April 1953 aboard the USNS Geiger. Louise managed the family moves from from one military assignment to the next, including Sandia Base, New Mexico; Camp Gary, Texas; Fort Rucker, Alabama; Fort Eustis, Virginia; and Fort Knox, Kentucky, where son Michael Joseph was born in January 1961. Following a five-year assignment in Brooklyn, New York, husband Robert was sent to Viet Nam, and Louise moved with the children to Aurora, Colorado. The family was reunited when Robert retired from the Army in 1970 and went to work for the Aurora Police Department. Louise lost the love of her life in 1996, when Robert lost his brief battle with cancer. More than anything, Louise was a loving and supportive wife and mother, who volunteered numerous times for her children's school and scouting activities; made clothing for Ken and Barbie; packed school lunches with the crust removed from the tuna fish sandwiches; baked everyone's favorite cookies; and typed (and corrected!) numerous school papers. She was the original ""Martha Stewart"", turning ordinary gatherings into themed events. She was renowned both within the family and in the Aurora Police Department and Court system for her extraordinary and inventive baked goods, but most especially for her cream cheese brownies. When the nest emptied, Louise lavished her attention on her two grandsons and numerous grand dogs. Christmas gatherings were made even more special by Louise's famous ""Chicken Divan"", enjoyed by all family members, human and canine alike. Emma Louise is survived by three children and two grandchildren: daughter Patricia Hyman of Arvada, Colorado; son Robert ""Bobby"" Hyman, Jr. and wife Blanca of California City, California; son Michael Hyman and wife Cindy of Aurora; Michael's sons Dane Hyman and Dylan Hyman, both of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by her niece, Janet (née Bissing) and husband Jack Vanausdall of Loveland, Colorado. A Memorial Service will he held on Wednesday, July 9th at 10:00 am in the Chapel at Horan & McConaty, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave, Aurora, Colorado. Interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery will follow at 12:00 Noon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to any of the charities that support our military veterans and their families.
