Emma E. ""Pat"" Leighton

February 14, 1922 — November 25, 2012

Emma E. Manning Leighton, 90, known to her family and friends as ""Pat"", passed away on November 25 in Littleton. Wife of the late Albert H. Leighton; Mother of Jacqueline (Roger) Yoshinari, Pamela Leighton, and James Leighton; Grandmother of David and Daniel Yoshinari, Katherine (Michael) Mohammadi, and Chelsie Modrell; and Great Grandmother of Nathan and Andrew Mohammadi. She is dearly loved and missed by her family. Emma Eulalia Manning was born on February 14, 1922 in Lyons, Colorado to James P. and Lulu M. Manning. Her only sibling, James Wilfred Manning, died in 1926 at age three. As a young child, she was called ""Lalie"", until she decided that she wanted to be known as ""Patsy"", which later became ""Pat"". She attended the Lyons School (now the Lyons Redstone Museum). Later her family moved to Denver, where she attended South High School, graduating in 1940. In the summer of 1940, Pat met her future husband, Albert H. Leighton, who was stationed at Lowry Field in Denver with the US Army Air Corps. After Al became a pilot and was stationed overseas in England and North Africa, their courtship continued by correspondence. Pat worked at department stores in Denver, and became a representative for Max Factor Cosmetics at the May Company. Pat and Al were married on August 6, 1944 in Denver. When Al passed away in December 2010, they had known each other for 70 years, and had been married for 66 years. Pat was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was down to earth and outspoken. An avid reader, she was particularly interested in archeology and history. In December 2006, Pat and Al moved to Porter Place Retirement Home in Denver. After breaking her hip in January 2009, Pat moved to Cherrelyn Healthcare Center in Littleton, where Al visited her every day that he was able. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Colorado Alzheimers Association, 455 Sherman Street, Suite 500, Denver, CO 80203. Private interment will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery on December 3, 2012.
