Emma Dorsey Perez, 86, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away February 9, 2022. She was born September 10, 1935, in Las Animas, Bent County, Colorado to Joseph R. and Delia Casias Duran.
Emma D. Duran married Cruz Perez on April 10, 1954, in La Junta Colorado. Together they raised four wonderful boys Daniel Cruz, Michael Joseph, David Fermin and Nathan Carmen Perez. Emma was a military wife and supported Cruz through his Air Force career which included a three-year deployment to Germany in which they shared many happy and exciting memories. Emma retired from the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center as an accountant and enjoyed many happy retirement years with Cruz. Emma and Cruz belonged to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Clyde Seiler Chapter 21. Emma proudly served Chapter 21’s Auxiliary Commander for the state of Colorado. Emma and Cruz loved traveling in their van going to Disabled American Veteran’s (DAV) conventions in multiple states.
Emma and Cruz enjoyed and were members of the Federal Communications Commission Radio Club. Emma was proud to receive her FCC Amateur Radio License, her call sign was N0VDW.
Emma belonged to the Cake Club of Colorado and enjoyed making cakes for family and friends, this included giant wedding cakes that she delivered as far as Pueblo in an ice storm. On one occasion Emma called her daughter-in-law at 10:00pm the night before a wedding and was in a panic, as the dog (Sheena) had jumped up and taken a bite out of three of the cakes. It was a fast joint effort to re-bake and decorate the cakes for the approaching wedding day. Emma enjoyed cooking and passed on many family recipes and traditions to her daughters-in-law and grandchildren of cakes, tamales, sopapillas to include her special tortillas browned to a crispy delight on her plata.
Emma is loved and will be missed by her four sons, Daniel, Michael (Annie), David (Sylvia) and Nathan (Yvonne); grandchildren, Angelina, Gina, Anthony, Kiersten, Nicole, Amber, Stephanie, Emmaly, Michael, Kristin, Kenton, Nicholas, Dustin and Brian; great grandchildren, Nadia, Sebastian, Roxy, Lexy, Alexis, Giovanni, Sienna, Ruby, Olivia, Joelle, Carter, Addison, Kylie, Jace, Lily, Kenlee and Gabe; great-great-grandchild, Ariel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cruz; brothers, David, Don and Joe Duran; Niece Amanda Duran.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, from 5:00-7:00pm, at Horan & McConaty, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Aurora, CO 80014.
The funeral mass for Emma will be held at 10:00am, on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at St. Pius X Parish, 13670 E. 13th Place, Aurora, CO 80011.
Burial will follow at 1:00pm, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Blvd., Denver, Colorado. Please gather at staging area ‘A’ at 12:45pm.
A small reception for family and close friends will be held at 3:00pm at the Heartlight Center located at 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Aurora, CO 80014.
