Erby Lee Kenerson passed away surrounded by family at his home in Centennial, Colorado, on Monday, May 25, 2020. He was born on February 12, 1941, to Mary Stone and General Kenerson, Sr. in Winnsboro, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Jeanine Hope Kenerson.
Erby received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army, toured the US and Korea, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain in 1967.
After military service, Erby worked for the Bureau of Reclamation. On one assignment, he moved to Washington state to work at the Grand Coulee Dam, where he met Gayle, who became his wife of 42 years. In 1989, Erby was selected by the Foreign Activities Department in Washington D.C. for an assignment with the U.S. Embassy and his family moved to Cairo, Egypt. After Erby retired in 2002, he built Front Range Hydro, a consulting business, and continued to work throughout the US, Nepal and Brazil.
Erby was passionate about teaching math, quantum physics, and volunteering at a retirement home and the University of Colorado Medical Center at Anschutz. In 2019, he was awarded the Earthen Vessel award at the retirement center to ""pay homage to...Erby Kenerson, a volunteer whose outstanding service has enhanced the lives of residents beyond compare"".
As long as his children can remember, Erby was always known to say, ""Life is Good"". He is survived by 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren.
Due to the current situation with COVID-19, all services are being postponed at Fort Logan, Colorado. A memorial service with military honors will be held at Fort Logan in the summer of 2021.
