Eriberto Lange

SALEM - Eriberto Lange died of natural causes on Wednesday, May 21. He was 88. Mr. Lange was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, on May 27 1919, the second-oldest of 18 children. He went to school in Ponce and worked there as a law clerk after high school. He volunteered for military service during World War II and served in the U.S. Army in England, France, and Germany. After the war, he was stationed in Lille, France, where he met and fell in love with Gabrielle Malfait. They married in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Shortly thereafter, he was stationed in Verdun, France, eventually returning to the United States. He was then stationed in Virginia, Georgia, Korea, Arizona, Panama, and Missouri. He retired after 24 years of service, and moved the family to Denver, Colorado, where he worked for the Internal Revenue Service, in the Criminal Investigation Division, retiring from that post after 20 years. Mr. Lange was trilingual, speaking Spanish, French, and English. He loved fishing, shooting pool, cooking, playing the guitar, bicycle riding, and singing. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Virginia, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Panama. Mr. Lange volunteered for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Denver. He was also a volunteer at the Denver Senior Center, serving lunches and singing in the choir, and at Faith Bible Chapel in Arvada. Mr. Lange was preceded in death by son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Gabrielle Lange. He is survived by his older brother, José-Angel Lange; his two sisters, Josefa Lange and Judith Oquendo; his daughters Marie-José Borden and Francine Lange; son-in-law Randy; daughter-in-law Nancy Lange; granddaughters Shalese Borden and Cozette Easly; and great-granddaughter Mishayla Easly.A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 24 at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. Interment will be Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 10:00 am at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
