Erin was so anxious to live that she arrived three months prematurely on Easter Sunday morning, April 11, 1982. That was just the first of her surprises. At age five, this special and beloved Child of God was diagnosed with a brain tumor leaving her with vision loss and physical and cognitive differences. Those of us who knew her and loved her soon realized that these did not slow her down for a minute.
As a child, Erin’s life was enriched by week-long stays at Camp Esperanza, the Children’s Medical Center of Dallas camp for children with cancer. She modeled for many years in the Children’s Cancer Fund fashion show with the Dallas Cowboys. She rode horses with the Equest Therapeutic Riding Program in Texas. Erin was a Girl Scout and was adeptly skilled at cookie sales. She skied into adulthood with the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center in Colorado. She had a part-time job as a nursing aid.
Erin traveled independently by air. She ocean kayaked, loved zodiac rides, saw whales, dolphins and icebergs, flew in helicopters, rode on a dogsled, fed a sloth and a giraffe, and held Rosie, the tarantula. Erin accomplished a 5k run/walk, swam with skill, threw pottery on a wheel, and had a first kiss. She was an educated voter. She was a flower girl and a maid of honor, delivering a toast on the microphone at her sister’s wedding.
Erin’s greatest strengths were her love of Jesus and her unshakable faith in him as her Savior, her ability to give unforgettable, bone-crushing hugs and her consummate skill in joke-telling. She had an infectious smile that will live on in our hearts.
Erin died on March 18, 2024 after a hospital stay following complications from a fall.
Left behind to miss her are her mother, Cindy MacArthur, her sister and brother-in-law, Casey and Brendan Kroepsch, and her nieces, Harper and Isla, whom she adored. She also leaves countless friends and extended family members who will continue to marvel at her joy in life and how much they were affected by her unconditional love.
