Ernest Otero Rios

November 20, 1920 — June 3, 2013

Ernest Otero Rios, 'Ernie', 92 years of age, passed away on June 3, 2013. He was surrounded by his family as he peacefully left this world to join his wife of 64 years, Liliane Simonne Rios, who passed on September 7, 2010. Ernie is survived by a sister, Julia Ramirez of Cheyenne, Wyoming and his children, Richard Rios of Vancouver, WA, Roger Rios of Parker, CO; Michele Allen of Naples, FL. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Ernie was born in Scottsbluff Nebraska, attending schools there and in Mitchell, Nebraska, and later completed undergraduate studies at the University of Denver 1955. In 1943, Ernie entered military service and participated in campaigns in North Africa, Italy and France with the U.S. Army. Following the war, Ernie married Lili in Reims, France and returned to the United States where he had a short stint as a Mexican restaurateur in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Ernie, over the course of his long life, worked as a cost accountant and became a Supervisory Operating Accountant for the Department of the Army at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, at Denver, Colorado. In addition, Ernie actively participated in the Boy Scouts of America. With the Boy Scouts, Ernie achieved Unit Scouting Commissioner and held the high honor of Vigil membership with the Order of the Arrow. Ernie was passionate about scouting and athletics, playing tennis whenever the weather allowed. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 12:00 PM at Horan and McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood, Co. The Committal Service will take place following the Memorial Service at 2:00 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado.
