Ernest "Ernie" Coppen of Denver, Colorado passed away on December 15, 2021 at the age of 97. Ernie was born to Ernest and Agnes Coppen on January 5, 1924 in Darby, Pennsylvania. He was a proud member of the Armed Forces and flew 32 missions as a waist gunner in WWII. He received a Distinguished Flying Cross and multiple Air Medals. Ernest then spent 38 years working for Mountain Bell. In his free time, Ernie loved gardening, and he grew beautiful roses. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family.
Ernie was a loving father to his two children, Ronald (Christina) Coppen and Margaret (Kevin) Gates and a loving grandfather to Tiffany and Micca Harrison, John and C.J. Gates. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (Edmondson) who passed away in 1970 and his wife Clara (Ochs) who passed away in 2004; sisters, Ann McMullen and Mary Coppen and his brother James Coppen.
A Funeral Mass will be held on January 5, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Notre Dame Catholic Church located at 2190 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado. Interment and military honors will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
