Eugene Curtis Armstrong

November 30, 1916 — February 14, 2012

Eugene Curtis Armstrong, 95, was born November 30, 1916 in Amarillo, Texas and passed away on February 14, 2012 in Centennial, Colorado. He is survived by his three children, James Curtis (Sue), Gary Everett (Gail) and Ann Marie Fulton (Greg), ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty years, Florence Collier Armstrong.

Eugene graduated from the University of Southern California with high honors in 1939. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1940 and was accepted as a cadet into the officer training program. Eugene flew the B-29 aircraft with the 315th Bomb Wing and was Wing Gunnery Officer stationed on the island of Guam. He was awarded the bronze star and attained the rank of Major.

In 1947 he bought Wazee Electric and built the company with his son Curtis into one of Denver’s premier industrial, electrical and repair businesses. In 1969 he started General Air Service and Supply with his son Gary and together they developed GAS&S into one of the region’s largest distributors of welding supplies and industrial gas. The two businesses are still thriving, being run by his sons and grandsons.

He was a member of The Lions Club, The Kiwanis Club and President of both the Rocky Mountain Chapters of NECA and EASA. He retired in 1984 and began his second career of exploring the world with his beloved wife, Florence.

Gene loved anything with wheels and a motor. Trading cars and traveling North America in his motor home were his passions. He had an inquiring mind and a great sense of humor. He was his happiest when he had a project; building, fixing or improving the way something worked was his specialty. Eugene adored his family, his dogs and will be sadly missed by all of those he touched and influenced. His family is grateful for the loving care of Lillian Uriarte for these last nine years.

Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, Horan & McConaty, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd, Denver, Colorado.

Memorials may be made to Centura Health Hospice.
