Eugene Allan Burdick

Eugene (Gene) Allan Burdick Gene Burdick, of Lakewood, passed away on Oct. 22, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Gene was born on Nov. 13, 1932, in Weeping Water, NE to Clyde and Gertrude (Becker) Burdick. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, son, Tim Burdick (Pam) and daughters Mari Kaye Gordon (Wayne), Anne Sweeney, Jana Weber (Joel), Joslynne Burdick and daughter-in-law, Kathy Burdick. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, sister, Shirley Lentz (NE) brothers Ken (OR) and Dick, his former wife, Mary Gill, and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Gene was predeceased by his parents and his beloved son, Jim. In addition to being a caring and devoted family man, Gene was a highly respected civil engineer and land surveyor, owning Burdick Engineering Consultants for over thirty years. In 1972 he joined the National Society of Professional Engineers. For 44 years he actively served the association at the chapter, state and national levels in numerous leadership positions including State President. This spring Gene was recognized as a National Fellow, the crowning achievement of his professional career. His colleagues viewed him as a mentor and leader who was able to create a diverse leadership team by gathering input from all and gently guiding them forward. Gene also acquired a private pilot license. Gene's family and friends were truly blessed by his presence in our lives, and he will live on in our hearts.
