Eumelia N. Arguello

February 21, 1932 — April 15, 2011

Eumelia N. ""Mela"" Arguello, 79, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2011 at her home in Englewood. Born February 21, 1932 near Las Vegas, NM to Manuel and Rosa Herrera, Mela was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, a loyal sibling and friend, and a woman of deep conviction. The extreme hardship of the Depression taught Mela to cherish family and sacrifice for them. She set a strong example for her children by never tolerating injustice, taking pride in her heritage, and demonstrating that worth is not measured by wealth. She raised four successful children, sharing with them her love of learning and ambition for a better life. Mela loved people, laughter, music, dancing, traveling, the mountains, and cheering on the Broncos. Mela is survived by Tony, her husband of 60 years; children, Anthony, Lydia, Manuel, and Damian; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 9 siblings; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Lena, Benny, and Viola; and grandson Joaquin. Visitation, Sunday, 5-7pm; Funeral Mass, Monday, 10:30am, both at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Latin American Educational Foundation, 561 Santa Fe Drive, Denver, CO 80204.
