Euriela was born January 13, 1912 to Elizabeth and Valentine Lang in Evansville, Illinois. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy High School in Illinois. The family moved to Denver in 1930 to help raise her widowed uncle's family. Euriela married attorney Robert H. Close on April 11, 1940. She worked as a secretary for GMAC and Colorado Fuel and Iron, and sold government war bonds until her husband's return from WWII in 1946. Residing in the Bonnie Brae area for 57 years, they were members of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church since 1948. She was active in her church, St. Vincent de Paul School, Regis High School, and the local community. Euriela was preceded into eternal life by her parents, her husband, her son John; and two sisters Alvira Vandenboom and Cleo Saindon. She is survived by her son and his wife, David and Lewrie Close of Lubbock, Texas; grandsons Matthew Close with his two daughters and Dennis Close, both of Texas; and many endeared nieces and nephews. Euriela leaves us the legacy of a lifelong practice of unquestioning and abiding faith in God, and the valued practices of optimism, trust, patience and simplicity of life. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 2375 E. Arizona Ave. Denver, at 10:00am on Friday, April 28, 2006. Memorials may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul School or charity of choice.
