Evan Mac Lockwood (65) of Denver, CO, passed away the morning of October 5, 2017, at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO due to complications from a stroke. Evan was born July 17, 1952, to Evan and Gaynel Margaret (Silkwood) Lockwood in Christopher, Illinois. He grew up in East Alton, IL and attended high school in Roxana, IL. The family was very active in the Wood River First Christian Church and were co-founders of the First Christian Church in Bethalto, IL. Evan attended Greenville College in Greenville, IL, Summit Christian College in Scottsbluff, NE, and Intermountain Bible College in Grand Junction, CO. After college, he entered the ministry as a pastor and served in churches in Colorado, Kentucky, California, and Utah. In 1985, Evan and his family moved back to Colorado, where he began working for Bank Western as a teller. While at Bank Western, Evan was promoted to his true vocation; corporate training. A member of the Association for Talent Development (ATD), Evan was a true teacher and trainer at heart. Evan could always be found instructing. Whether in his career as a corporate trainer, at home, at church, or in the community, there was no piece of information or skill that Evan was not willing to share with those around him. In 1990, Evan married Deb Steward in Aurora, CO, and they started their married life in their big red house near Northglenn, CO. A member of Life Fellowship Church in Westminster, CO, for over 23 years, Evan and Deb served in the childrenâs ministries. Evan and Deb also sang for 10 years throughout the region in the High Fidelity quartet with Tony and Nancy Valdez. An adventurous spirit, Evan was always willing to try something new, he took great joy in traveling with his family, and in later years with his beloved wife, Deb. The warmer months drew him outdoors, with his many interests including fishing, canoeing, camping, and most especially playing and being with his children and grandsons. Evan enjoyed playing sports, including baseball, softball, and basketball. As a spectator, he was a baseball fan. Having grown up in Illinois, the St. Louis Cardinals was his team of choice until he switched his allegiance to the Colorado Rockies in 1993. Evan is survived by his wife of 27 years, Deborah Kay (Steward) Lockwood; son James Evan and daughter-in-law Jennifer Lockwood of Westminster, CO; daughter Catherine Margaret and son-in-law Brian Hyde of Dillon, CO; son Luke Alan and daughter-in-law Lindsey Lockwood of Westminster, CO; sister Edith Marie (Lockwood) Schmidt of Peoria, AZ; and three grandsons: Titus William, Noah James, and Micah Jay Lockwood. He was preceded in death by his parents Evan Lockwood in 2002 and Gaynel (Silkwood) Lockwood in 2011; and brother-in-law Harry W. Schmidt in 2001. A memorial service will be held at Life Fellowship Church, 11500 North Sheridan Boulevard, Westminster, CO, 80020, on November 11, 2017, at 11:00 AM. Memorial donations may be made to one of two organizations: Life Fellowship Church (http://lifefellowship.org/) (for the youth and childrenâs ministries) or to the National Stroke Association (http://www.stroke.org/). As his final generous act, Evan gave the gift of life through tissue donation to the Donor Alliance. Arrangements are being handled by Horan & McConaty Funeral Home.
