Evelyn Frances Griffith

August 17, 1930 — November 21, 2011

Evelyn Frances Griffith was born in the small town of Hornersville, Missouri on August 17, 1930, to General Alvin & Willie Minerva Lewis. While working with the phone company in Belleville, Illinois, on a blind date she met Paul Lee Griffith, who turned out to be the love of her life, after dating for a mere eight months, they were married on August 6, 1949, in Belleville, Illinois at St. Mary's Catholic Church 7 a.m. mass. Together they had 7 children, after nine doctors told them they could not conceive any, Kathleen Ann, Paul Michael, James Daniel, Patrick Kevin, Helen Frances, Coleen Lynn, and Laura Lea. This was just one of her many miracles she experienced through her extraordinary life. Together, they built a wonderful life and were well loved and greatly admired by their children. Evelyn & Paul moved around due to Paul's military career and lived is several different places, settling in Aurora, Colorado in 1959. She worked for the Aurora Public Schools as a teacher's aide at North Middle School and Columbia Middle School, and Answer Plus. Many years prior to that, Evelyn worked with Russell Stover Candies, she was a homemaker and part-time supervisor for the Aurora (Star) Sentinel. In her free time, Evelyn enjoyed playing bingo and making frequent trips to casinos in Blackhawk and Central City, Colorado, they are commonly referred to as ""the hills"". She loved visiting Las Vegas, most notably to see Celine Dion in concert, she was an avid ""Days of Our Lives"" fanatic, watching every episode since Nov. 8, 1965, but her greatest love was just spending time with family. Evelyn had a story for everything and was an incredibly wise lady. The last person in the world she thought of was herself, her giving ways were infinite, her sense of humor was impeccable, and her love for pets and animals was immense. Her wisdom was boundless. To sum things up, she was just.... perfect! Her loss has left a tremendous void to everyone that knew her. She adored her ""babies"" Lily and Jade, Homie, Baby, Good Boy and Bird, they are lost and trying to find her. Even the squirrels in the neighborhood loved her, they were the best fed squirrels in the state, quite possibly the whole nation. We pray to God that he will welcome her into his kingdom, just like mom would welcome anyone or anything into her kingdom, with open arms and a loving heart. Evelyn is survived by children Kathy, James (Gloria), Patrick, Helen, Coleen (Chris) and Laura, grandchildren Rebecca Lee Dawson (Zen), Paula Michelle, Paul Gavin, Kali Dawn, Ashley Frances Inman (Brock), Cody James and Breanna Lea, great-grandchildren, Albert Amaya, McKenzie Leeann and Zakary Evan Dawson, Eva Rayne, a sister Carmen Viviano, a brother Charles ""Buddy"" Lewis, numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Paul Lee Griffith; a son, Paul Michael Griffith; a granddaughter Amanda Michelle Griffith; her parents, General Alvin and Willie Minerva Lewis; and siblings Alvin Lewis, Ernestine Robertson and Wilma Rodgers(Bill).
