Evelyn V. Jordan of Lakewood, Colorado passed away on December 26, 2023 at the age of 98. Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.
Evelyn’s beautiful life began May 24, 1925 in the small town of Burchard, Nebraska. Her early life was filled with music, song, dance, friends, family, and church. Her lifetime love of music came early in life, learning from her parents
During the 1920’s and 30’s, Evelyn’s family moved often throughout Nebraska as her father was seeking meaningful work. In 1942 the family moved to Colorado, eventually settling in Denver in 1944. Evelyn’s love of music led her to join a local orchestra and dance troupe to entertain soldiers at Lowry Field. In the early 50’s she often took her extensive record collection and portable record player to Fitzsimmons Army Hospital and played music for the patients.
In 1952, Evelyn started working at Joslin’s department store. It was there that she met her husband, Ivar Jordan. They became friends, and the friendship soon blossomed into romance. They were married on December 21, 1957 and raised ten rambunctious children.
In 1971, Ivar and Evelyn went about looking for a bigger home for their now very large family. They purchased a farm and 1300 acres in Weld County near Brighton. It was there that Evelyn discovered her passion for gardening. Her love of gardening stayed with her the rest of her life.
When the children grew up and left home, Ivar and Evelyn decided to sell the farm to move back closer to the city. In 1992, they purchased a home in Lakewood. Evelyn lived there the rest of her life. In 2001, Ivar became ill with a tear in his heart. The doctors gave no hope for recovery and he soon died. So ended their beautiful marriage of 44 years.
Evelyn was very proud and happy about her life with Ivar. They travelled often, visiting nearly every state, and many countries abroad.
Evelyn’s Catholic faith has been engrained into her life since birth, like a tightly woven thread. Since 1978 she was a Eucharistic Minister for the church. She considered this role a great privilege because of all the friends she made along the way.
Evelyn often expressed her thanks to God for her interesting, healthy, happy life. He gave her talent in art and music, which brought her much enjoyment over the years. She felt so blessed to have a wonder family and a life filled with good friends and neighbors.
