Evelyn Marie Cot&#233 McDougal

November 5, 1950 — March 14, 2012

Evelyn Marie Coté McDougal Born November 5, 1950 Mother Mary Ann Glassman Father Wilfred Raymond Cote Baptized at Annunciation in Denver Colorado Grade School St. James High School Machebuf Aurora Beauty College Cosmetology License Front Range Community College Associates Degree Memories from High School were mixed. When asked by Genevieve, Evelyn responses shed light on some of Evelyn's memories. She worked as a Cosmetologist for several years. After winning a passel of awards in Beauty College she had a few Jobs. The beauty Centre on Colfax at Cherry probably the longest. Evelyn loved the job because she could utilize her God given talent and artistry and she could visit with her clients. She said the art of listening was an important part of each appointment. From the time she had Thomas till she could no longer hold on to a pair of scissors she looked forward to each visit from a hair client. As our family grew she championed the family. Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTA, and school activities of every kind. Often she would assist the chair of the committee and develop the atmosphere for each event. The kitchen was often filled with goodies reserved for the next fund raiser or activity she was preparing. Church and Jesus played a central role in our family life and was the fuel of Evelyn's energy. When asked to volunteer to support the Colorado Army National Guard she responded to the many challenges of this position. youth activities, child care during meetings, girls night out , caring phone tree, information nights, and a resource manual with answers to many of the needs of a family when the Service man is deployed were developed and employed while she was in family program leadership position. She served as a volunteer first as a unit volunteer and dedicated more than 960 hours while 5th Battalion 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Was deployed. She became the regional volunteer and worked with many of the states units to organize their volunteer Family support groups. When Colorado's State Family program Director was called to serve as the national Director Evelyn became the State Family Program Director. It was at this time the Colorado Guards family program was selected as the Program of the year by the National Guard Bureau. Many of these innovative ideas are still in practice in today's Family Program. The voice is a gift from God. Evelyn believed you should give the gift back to him as often as possible. She participated in Church Choir from her earliest childhood. As a young adult in addition to full time work she sang in several choral groups and studied music at Metro State College. Mr. Leo Frazier provided private voice training and she remembered his instruction fondly in every opportunity she had to sing. Mountain Bell Singers, Show Wagon, and Spring Flings with the Church Choir gave her ample opportunity to exercise those vocal chords. Her extended family held great importance to her. She worked feverishly to gain support in the Glassman and the Cote' families for annual get together so each generation would be aware of the other and the treasured memories unique to each family would be carried forward. This determination was felt in her own family by the formation of a card party. Once a month Sisters and Brothers gathered to share laughter and tears while playing games or cards with each other. This gathering became more about sharing and as the years went by the games gave way to effective conversations with one another. God loved Evelyn and Evelyn loved God. She centered our lives in prayer. Her gritty battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia inspired the health care professional who attempted to defeat this devastating disease. Always polite and gracious during the most trying times of her treatment made testament to accepting God's will in all things. Complimenting those around her and praising their efforts even when the outcome was less than hoped for gained her favor from all those who assisted in her journey. Thanking all of those was her final greeting as she faced the final steps. Evelyn Died March 14 at 3:25 AM May she rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon her. Her Children, Hugh Thomas, Genevieve Therese, Joseph Raymond, Vincent Sean, and David Charles will all miss her. Her husband will rush to catch up with her. The world will not be the same with out her. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday March 21, 2012 at 4:00 PM with a Rosary with Opening Sharing to follow at 4:30 PM. The Funeral Mass will follow at 6:00 PM with a Reception to be held at 7:00 PM. All services will be held at Spirit of Christ Catholic Community Church at 7400 West 80th Avenue, Arvada, Colorado.
