Evelyn Gertrude Mullen-Messer, a ge 92
Evelyn was born to Everett and Gertrude Marston (née Douma) August 12, 1929 in Paterson, New Jersey. Evelyn is survived by brother Jack (aka Herman) Marston of Los Angeles, California; t hree children Justin (aka Darrell Mullen) del Sol of Elizabeth Colorado, Marilyn Wytulka (Randy) of Littleton, Colorado and Steve (Carol) Mullen of Littleton Colorado; seven-grandchildren Clint (Debbie) Wytulka, Jason (Shannon) Wytulka, Travis (Corinne) Wytulka, Kimberly Wytulka, Michael (Shannon) Zabawa, Skylar (Kellyn) del Sol, and Tasha del Sol; e leven great-grandchildren, Carlie, Jace, Tyler, Cade, Ellie, Ryland, Olivia, Emma, Juliet, Genevieve and Esme.
Evelyn lived and spent her childhood years in Little Falls, New Jersey. When Evelyn was an early teen they moved to Los Angeles, California where she attended Carmenita School, a few years later they moved to Reno, Nevada.
Evelyn met and married John Lawlis, Jr. and became a war bride which was annulled. Soon after Evelyn met Earl Mullen while working as the Switchboard operator at the Golden Hotel in Reno, Nevada they married and moved to Carmel, California then onto Barnard, Kansas and eventually settled in Colorado. In 1956 they bought a home in Denver, Colorado (Harvey Park in southwest Denver) and that was her home for 66 years until her passing. She loved her home and her neighborhood, she had very special neighbors who watched over her to make sure she was always safe and comfortable.
Evelyn had her dream job as a receptionist at Pinehurst Country Club and worked their for 42 years. While working at Pinehurst she made many close friends and formed long lasting relationships.
In 2003 she married Oran Messer which opened up a whole new world of adventure for her. They traveled to Georgia, Arizona, Seattle Washington, South Dakota and also to Hawaii. They lived life to the fullest together with family, friends and their church, until Oran’s passing in 2013.
No keeping Evelyn down, she continued to attend the Fire Department retirees luncheons enjoying time with wonderful friends she and Oran had made along the way. She carried on by surrounding herself with friends, and was the family historian and story teller at all of the family functions.
Evelyn enjoyed cooking, sewing, crochet, collecting and reading books. She loved genealogy and family history and put together a Douma and Marston family history book.
Evelyn leaves a wonderful legacy to her family and those who knew her by the way she lived her life. She taught her family to be truthful and love one another.
Evelyn said she had the best family anyone could ask for, the truth is we are all an extension of her and her life was a testimony to the family, we were all blessed by her presence in our lives.
