Evelyn Hava Vardon (formerly Citron) was born in Berlin, Germany in 1924. Her father, Julius Citron, a distinguished medical researcher and physician, was a friend and doctor to Albert Einstein. As a young girl she met Einstein and later in life spoke fondly of sitting on his knee. Her family left Nazi Germany shortly after Hitler's rise in January 1933. She moved to Israel with her father and two older brothers. During the Second World War she served as clerk for the British Army where she met her future husband, Henry, who served in the British Army as an officer. After the war they returned to Israel. Henry served with honor as a senior officer in Israel's War for Independence where she also served in a noncombat role. They later settled in Denver, Colorado, where they had two children. Evelyn spoke three languages: English, German & Hebrew. She worked for years for the Bureau of Land Management. She also worked as a professional tax preparer. Her husband, Henry died in 1959, after which she raised her two young sons by herself. She was a good homemaker & mother. Her two brothers, Ralph Citron & Herbert Citron, predeceased her. She is survived by her two children, Gary Vardon, Peter Vardon & one grandson, Joel. She lived in the same house for 50 years. Evelyn will be missed.
